Top 5 Must-Do Summer Activities in Maui

Molokini Crater

Summer in Maui: a paradise of endless sunshine, warm ocean breezes, and vibrant island life. Seriously, what’s more ideal? Whether you're an adventure seeker, a nature lover, or someone looking to relax and soak in the beauty, this season on our island offers an array of activities that cater to all interests. From snorkeling in crystal-clear waters to hiking lush trails with breathtaking views, we’ve compiled a list of free and fancy things that are especially special to do June-August. Here are five must-do activities to make the most of your summer in Maui.

Fruit Forage on the Road to Hana

With trees dripping with avocados, dragon fruit, egg fruit, jackfruit, lychee, mango, passionfruit and soursop, get on the road to Hana and get involved. There are plenty of local farm stands to support or if you see some of nature’s candies that aren’t growing on private property, graciously ask the tree for consent (the Hawaiian way) and enjoy! It’s a real life scavenger hunt.

Snorkel While it’s Warm

Due to the island's calm, clear and WARM waters, summer is the best time to snorkel (in our opinion). Popular spots like Molokini Crater, Honolua Bay, and Turtle Town teem with colorful fish, coral reefs, and even sea turtles. We also recommend driving the Makena coast to find mellow little nooks to dive in. Additionally, the summer months offer more predictable weather, ensuring your snorkeling excursions are both enjoyable and safe. June especially, can offer fewer crowds compared to the winter season so you can drift freely under the sea.

Take a Helicopter Tour

With less rain and mostly sunny weather, summer is a safe and exceptional time to see the Valley Isle by sky. It’s a splurge, but there’s nothing like soaring over hidden cascades spouting from green mountainsides of misty valleys and rugged, breathtaking ocean cliffs. If you’re an adrenaline junkie, we recommend the doors-off tours. It’s a bucket list item for sure.

Vibe on a Sunset Cruise

Imagine the sun dipping below the ocean horizon, sending ripples of vibrant oranges, pinks, and purples through the sky. Your skin is warm, the air is balmy, the water is smooth and you’re sipping a something cool and tropical. Dolphins dance and sea turtles poke their heads out of the calm, clear waters. Need we say more? With fewer clouds and more predictable weather, a summer sunset cruise is kinda the thing to do.

Camp at Polipoli Spring State Recreation Area

Located upcountry in the Kula Forest Reserve, the rolling green hills of Polipoli offer refreshingly cooler temperatures. The summer months ensure clear skies and stunning views of the sunset over the island. Wake up early and watch a serene sunrise before going on a lovely hike on one of the many trails. Remember to pack warm clothing, as temperatures can drop significantly at night, and bring plenty of water and food, as the area is quite remote (which is what makes it so good!)!
