Maui Through a Local’s Eye: Annie Shamoon

EAT

Aloha! I’m Annie, founder of Aloha Moon Maui.

I’ve always loved all things Maui, but never knew I’d end up here one day.

I moved from Texas almost three years ago after having met my (now) husband on vacation, selling all my belongings, and hopping on a plane (something very unlike this Texas girl to do!) After having spent some time learning the island and closing my previous, Texas-based gift company, I realized that my true passion lies in food and in creating special memories; I decided to harness the beautiful produce available on Maui and start a luxury charcuterie business, which has now expanded into catering. Operating Aloha Moon has been a dream come true, and allows me to connect with the community on Maui and support local growers and makers, all while adding an element of surprise & delight to our clients’ most special moments!

Here are some of my passions:

  1. Nights at Marlow.

Everything about Marlow is my happy place; the food, the ambience, the attention to detail - it reminds me of life in the city.

  2. Plumeria trees.

Even after three years here, I can’t believe that Plumeria trees are real. Stunning, colorful flowers falling from trees everywhere you look. It’s mesmerizing and so quintessentially Hawaiian.

  3. Sustainability.

One of the reasons I love Maui is the emphasis that the people here place on living environmentally friendly and sustainably. It’s something I've always been passionate about and love being around like-minded people.

  4. Adventuring on Maui.

My husband grew up on Maui and this Dallas girl is very new to adventure so when we have the chance, we make a day of seeing new things around the island. Some of our favorites are Sunset Sails, paddle boarding, and hiking Iao Valley.

  5. Finding reasons to celebrate.

Because why not! My first job was in restaurant event planning and it just stuck with me; I love making things as perfect as possible for guests, and still love hosting events and bringing people together for any reason.

  6. Andaz Margaritas at Sunset.

If you haven’t spent an evening at the Andaz Lehua Lounge, watching sunset and the best live music with a margarita in hand, you have to go!

  7. Cooking & coming up with new recipes.

I love recipe testing, finding new ways to combine flavors, and cooking up healthy new dishes for my family. One flavor combo I'm especially proud of is our Ali’i Lavender & White Chocolate chunk cookies. A must try!

We also like finding reasons to celebrate. Follow along with Annie and all yummy things Aloha Moon @alohamoonmaui.
